27 Aug 2005 - Warlingham Park BC Finals Day
Joan is a Three Time Winer!
Finals day was held in front of a "full house" of club members, and guests, who were entertained to some high class bowling.
The flagship events, the Ladies and Men's Championship singles were keenly fought. In the Ladies event it was 'all square' until the 6th end, when Joan Winer claimed three shots to edge ahead. She then went on to win comfortably 21-9 over Mary Kennedy. In the Men's final Ralph Bailey won for the first time heading Club Chairman Kevin McNamee 21-8. After an evenly fought first half, Ralph dominated the rest of the match, and was delighted at his first success.
Joan Winer was the most successful bowler winning three competitions, including the Ladies Championship. Joan also beat June Beven in the Ladies 2 Wood singles in a closely fought 15-11 victory, and then followed up with the Mixed Triples title (skipping Don Gullett & June Beven to a 22-9 win over Betty Hewitt, Carol Searle and Dave Aldam.) June herself was in five finals, and won through in the Two Wood Handicap Pairs with husband Dave (18-15) over Croydon Borough President Bill Harris and Colin Back, as well as in the Mixed Triples.
In other men's competitions, Ralph Bailey completed a double taking the Two Wood singles (19-4) over Peter Edwards. Don Booth won the Handicap singles with a 22-7 triumph over Club President John Brialey. Keith Searle won the Also Ran final (after being runner-up last year). After an even first ten ends, Keith ran away to beat Robin Arrow 20-12. The Pairs competition saw a very close affair. Terry Wood & partner Graham Aldam were tied 18-18 with opponents Bill Harris & Terry Tomlinson. A 2 shot last end for Terry Wood & Graham saw the trophy won 20-18.
In the other Ladies competitions, the 100 Up singles went to Carol Searle with a 106-94 victory over June Beven. Carole was well down after 10 ends, but a 30 shot advantage over the remaining ends saw her home. The Also Ran title went to Chris Attwell 28-15 over Jean Gullett, and the Pairs saw Chris Edwards & Joy Arrow edge out June Beven & Pam Harris 24-18, after the losers won 8 of the last 10 ends to finally miss out.
Trophies will be presented at the Annual Dinner and Dance on the 4th November.
